The identity of God is shown through the people. Men and women were created in the image of God, which means that when we look at each other there is something about us that will teach us more about who God is. A saving knowledge of God cannot be found by looking within, but God did design men and women to exhibit traces of his character.
In the Western world, Christianity sometimes elevates the image of God shown through males forgetting that a powerful image of God is seen in women as well. At Life’s Journey, we seek to follow the word of God and the Spirit of God to lift each other up and help both men and women play their part in the Kingdom of God on earth. Women play a vital part in the mission of Jesus Christ and the team is incomplete if we sideline women in favor of the false image of God we create if we think that God only wants to work through men.
Listen as Casey reminds us that gospel work needs both halves of God’s image on earth.
Is it easier for you to think of what you are worried about or what you are thankful about? If your list of things you are worried about is larger than what you are thankful about, it’s time to renew your thankfulness and focus on God’s goodness.
Listen as Sherry points you to joy instead of fear.
As you grow in a relationship with Jesus you will begin to recognize when God speaks to you. This is not an audible manner like we read about in some stories of the Bible, rather it is often an idea, an impression, or something like a strong urging from within that causes you to stop and consider something that you know must be from God. In the book of James, James wrote that every good and perfect thing comes from above. Jesus said that the Devil comes to steal, kill and destroy and that the demonic realm will never urge anyone to do something that is clearly revealed as good and right in God’s word as presented in the Scriptures. Jesus also said that after he ascended to Heaven, he would send the Holy Spirit to remind us of all the things Jesus taught. There’s an expectation that God the Holy Spirit will communicate with Christians as we grow in Christian maturity and that these communications will never oppose or violate what God has already revealed. Learning to hear the Holy Spirit speak to you is a practice of learning what God has already said and learning to discern your own earthly desires from heavenly ones (desires that God says are good to have).
In an extra Sunday morning message, Sherry shared a recent encounter with the Holy Spirit and talked about how she responded to what the Spirit prompted.
On Sunday morning, January 28, Tary provided a brief update and encouragement to the Life’s Journey congregation. After Pastor Rod died, many people are wondering what will happen next. Although there is still much prayer and many decisions ahead for the elders of Life’s Journey, Tary reminded us that we will be OK. God is with us, Jesus is King and the Spirit is our guide. Join us in praying for the elders (Bruce Brown, Tary Hanson, and Tom Reimers) that they will have wisdom and courage to make the decisions God has set before them.
God has placed gifts and leadership within Life’s Journey and we all have the privilege to be a part of what God is doing. Listen to hear the beginning of a new journey that lay ahead.
