The commandment to honor mom, command number five, is the first of the ten commandments which deals with relationships between people. When you honor someone, you regard them with great respect. Can you say that you respect your mom? If you don’t, you might have reasons to act that way. If you do honor your mom, the next question is, does your mom know it?
Show honor to moms and you show honor to God. To honor her is to recognize the dignity given her by God, thereby honoring God and setting yourself up for honor to God in other ways. If I honor my mom, I honor God. Practicing honor is a practice to love others more and harm them less. Jesus said all the Law is summed up in two commands, “Love God and love others”. Showing honor to mothers helps us fulfill that law and obey God.
Be encouraged as Evan reminds why honoring motherhood is so important.

The identity of God is shown through the people. Men and women were created in the image of God, which means that when we look at each other there is something about us that will teach us more about who God is. A saving knowledge of God cannot be found by looking within, but God did design men and women to exhibit traces of his character.
In the Western world, Christianity sometimes elevates the image of God shown through males forgetting that a powerful image of God is seen in women as well. At Life’s Journey, we seek to follow the word of God and the Spirit of God to lift each other up and help both men and women play their part in the Kingdom of God on earth. Women play a vital part in the mission of Jesus Christ and the team is incomplete if we sideline women in favor of the false image of God we create if we think that God only wants to work through men.
Listen as Casey reminds us that gospel work needs both halves of God’s image on earth.
You wouldn’t be alive today (or ever) without your mom. Mom’s are not always perfect and they make mistakes just like anyone else; but your mom is a gift from God. God decided to bring you to life through the woman you know as mom. Long ago, God commanded his people to always honor their mother. He wants people to not only honor their own mother, but to honor mothers anywhere. This Mother’s Day, remember of all the good that your mom has done for you. Forgive her for the worst, cherish her for the best, honor her always in whatever she does. God said it, you do it, she receives it.
